Green fingered volunteers have been busy today and it certainly shows!!
Mike Brooks has been digging paths, Tim and Fiona have been preparing soil and Fiona Porter and Elizabeth Ely are still out now (7.30 on a Friday evening!!) placing plants ready to begin planting tomorrow 10-12noon. A trowel, bottle of water and sun block required for volunteers to help. We will also be litter picking.
The efforts are all to create a sensory garden as part of the CRAG - Coaley Recreation Action Group rec regeneration. The sensory garden is located at the main entrance between the shop and the village hall. Designed to stimulate and engage the five senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste the gardens enhances well-being, reduces stress, and provides a calming environment for all.
Fiona, Suzie, Fern, Belinda and Jennie have all grown loads of plants. They are a highly skilled and motivated group of people who have given their time over several months to make this happen.
Great work from the planting group and 14 other volunteers ranging from age 3 up to retired folk! We had teenagers, families and keen gardeners alike all taking part in transforming the space into a sensory garden. The vast space has been created at very little cost, the plants have been grown from seed and conditioning compost donated by Duncan Birkbeck of Applegarth Nurseries, Chipping Norton. Some more plants will be delivered and planted in the coming days and then it’s a waiting (and watering!!) game to see how they develop.
We are in need of a ton of wood chip to form the paths, if you are able to donate any, or know of somewhere we could approach please do get in touch!
Local volunteer spent some time this morning laying the gravel donated by the hall for the paths on the sensory garden. Hard work but very rewarding and another step forward.
