Over the last few weeks, Grimshaws have been working hard on the tennis court surfaces doing:
Moss killing
Weeding
Cleaning
Once the courts had been prepared, they were then able to paint the new lines on the courts. The tennis court area wants to be as accessible as it can for a range of sports and so the design for the lines has been made to include markings for:
2x Tennis Courts
4x Pickleball Courts
1x Basketball Court
1x Netball Court
We have applied for funding from “building back better fund ” Gloucestershire county council’s Councillor scheme.
The purpose of which is to provide vital investment to local community groups which are key to the county’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic
During our consultations villagers have identified the need to refurbish the existing 2 tennis courts, as part of our ongoing plans we feel repainting the lines on the courts would improve usage as the current lines are very worn and faded. The tennis courts are a hard standing and families don’t just use the tennis courts for tennis, children learn to ride their bikes, football, netball and even races.
Following the consultation we feel that using the opportunity to develop the use of the space by re-painting the lines to incorporate other sports e.g. netball and basket ball will improve flexibility of use and make it more inclusive. The courts are designed to be multi-sport use and are well used by the village. They are a useful amenity for locals to exercise and given Coaley’s size it’s an invaluable resource which needs upgrading.
Works would be quoted by external sources and organised by members of CRAG.
Use of the tennis courts have been a great source of support villagers with their mental health as it gives opportunity to socialise and exercise.
To improve the condition of the courts to allow villagers of all ages to use it for sports and recreational activities. By improving the facility, it will allow people exercise and reduce social isolation.
