We had a great time this morning at the first of our monthly nature morning sessions. We are hugely grateful to Wren’s Birds of Prey for bringing three beautiful owls and sharing so much knowledge with us all, we learnt about the different species', their characteristics and how to protect them and their habitat.
The event was very well attended by some 200 children and adults. As well as meeting the birds close up everyone was able to make bird feeders for their gardens. Thanks to Coaley Village Community Shop for donating the bird seed (yes! they sell bird seed and peanuts!) we used 2kg of seed, 2kg of lard and 300 pine cones and everyone was able to take the cones home to hang in their gardens to feed birds during the winter.
People went away knowing how to create nesting sites, provide extra food during bad weather, to avoid rat poison and were sign-posed to groups and organisations they could go to for more information.
The event was very well delivered and attended and we received excellent feedback with people reflecting that they were leaving with increased knowledge and understanding about birds and how we can all protect them better. We are confident that the birds in Coaley will be well fed this winter!
